Christian’s Perfect Sandwich

The Hot Rod came together on a car ride to Citi Field for Opening Day. On a beautiful Thursday morning, as we made our way to watch the Mets, Sergio asked me a simple question:

“What’s your perfect sandwich?”

What started as a casual conversation quickly turned into a full breakdown of my ideal order. Ingredient by ingredient, I described exactly what I look for in a sandwich, and together we made a few tweaks along the way. A couple of hours and plenty of traffic later, by the time we arrived at the stadium, the blueprint for The Hot Rod was complete.

That’s what makes this sandwich special to me. It wasn’t created in a kitchen or pulled from a recipe book. It came from a conversation between friends on our way to the ballpark and a shared appreciation for a really great sandwich.

Looking back, it’s fitting that one of the sandwiches on the menu was created the same way Between Friends began—with a simple question and a good conversation.
